2011 US Open Men’s Final Preview

US Open Men's FinalThis evening will see world number one Novak Djokovic try and claim his third Grand Slam title of 2011 when he takes on Rafael Nadal in the final of the US Open at Flushing Meadows. Djokovic has been inspirational this year winning 65 of his 67 matches and Paddy Power are a standout 4/6 about the Serb inflicting another defeat upon Nadal having already beaten him in five straight finals already this year. This US Open Men’s Final preview will take a look at the form of both players and try and find the best possible value to be had.

Djokovic will be hoping it’s not a case of déjà vu after losing out to Nadal (6–4, 5–7, 6–4, 6–2) at the same stage last year but after his empathic battle against Roger Federer in the semi-final, where the Serb came from two sets down to claim victory, it remains to be seen how much the current world number one still has left in his tank.

Nadal currently leads the head-to-head battle 16-12 and after his convincing win over Andy Murray in his semi-final match the Spaniard will be confident that he can claim his 11th major title. It’s 7/5 (Sportingbet) for Nadal to come out on top and if the 25-year-old can put his last five defeats to Djokovic behind him, the 7/5 could be a value bet. Yes, Nadal has everything to prove against Djokovic but the manner in which the Spaniard has reached the final suggests that the world number two could be the man to be with (only lost one set to Murray in the semi-finals).

The bookmakers obviously see this match to be as close as many would expect with Victor Chandler offering 8/5 for the match to be over in four sets. It’s 2/1 (Sky Bet) for either player to win in straight sets and 23/10 that it’s a five set thriller. In the set betting, Novak Djokovic has the slight advantage with a 3-1 victory available at 100/30 (Sportingbet) and a 3-0 victory 7/2 (Paddy Power). As with the match result the value in the set betting also lies with Nadal. The Spaniard is top price 5/1 to win 3-1 (Betfred & Bet365) and 11/2 to win 3-2 (7/1 Nadal 3-0).

From the other tennis betting markets available, the 11/8 on offer from Sky Bet for the match score to be 1-1 after two sets looks a good bet and so does the 8/13 for Nadal to win with a handicap start of 1.5 sets (6/5 Djokovic -1.5 sets). If you think that it will be a close run affair, the 4/7 for there to be a tie-break in the match could definitely be worth a bet.

Whatever happens this evening you can expect a true exhibition of tennis at its highest level.
