US Open 2010 Tennis

US Open 2010 Tennis Betting PreviewTennis betting fans have had plenty of action to get their teeth into in recent months, but the US Open is always one of the most popular tournaments of the year and the 2010 event is now just a few weeks away. The US Open 2010 is scheduled to start on Monday 30 August and end on Sunday 12 September with the Men’s Singles Final. As always, there are plenty of players who are praying that this year will be the one in which they make their mark as a champion, and tennis fans who like to bet will be keen to take a look at the early prices that are currently available…

The 2009 US Open was a thrilling affair, with defending champion Roger Federer doing battle against Juan Martin del Potro for more than four hours. Federer ultimately lost that battle and was therefore unable to extend his number of consecutive US Open victories to six, but he will be looking to take his title back this year in no uncertain terms. Of course, it won’t be easy, and right now Paddy Power has Federer installed as the 11/4 joint favourite alongside Rafael Nadal in the Outright Betting market. British hopeful Andy Murray is the third favourite at 7/2 and other contenders are 8/1 or bigger.

Last year’s Women’s Singles Final was between Caroline Wozniacki and Kim Clijsters, and it has to be said that Clijsters won in an easier fashion than her male counterpart. She beat her opponent in straight sets and the William Hill sportsbook has her priced up as the 4/1 second favourite to successfully defend her title. So who is the current market favourite? Ten out of ten to anyone who immediately suggested Serena Williams, because that’s exactly who it is at odds of 7/4. Maria Sherapova is the 6/1 third favourite and Venus Williams is currently priced at 10/1, with 14/1 or bigger available about the rest.

Although sports betting enthusiasts must always take past performance into account when making their tennis betting selections, no tennis tournament is ever completely predictable and it can therefore be just as sensible to bet on a player with a fighting chance as it can be to bet on the early form favourites. Both Paddy Power and William Hill will pay half the odds for each way bets on players who finish first or second, so picking two contenders for each of the Men’s Singles and Women’s Singles competitions could potentially allow you to land four each way bets if your predictive powers prove to be accurate.

We will bring you news about other US Open 2010 betting markets closer to the time, but for now take a look at the Outright Betting odds that are available and, if you find a few prices that you like, consider taking them before they get any shorter.
