Next England Manager
Harry Redkanpp is top price 4/9 with William Hill to be named as the next England manager following the resignation of Fabio Capello from the national role. The Italian had come under some strong criticism following his reaction to the FA’s decision to remove John Terry as England captain and after a scheduled meeting with FA chairman David Bernstein, Capello decided enough was enough and quit from his role as England manager.
Stuart Pearce is 15/2 with Paddy Power to make the progression up from the U21s side to the senior side whilst former Chelsea and Turkey manager Guus Hiddink, is 11/1 to take the England manager role (William Hill). Jose Mourinho, who has been heavily tipped to leave Real Madrid at the end of the La Liga season, is 14/1 with Paddy Power and the current Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is 33/1.
Prior to Capello’s resignation football pundits were already calling for an Englishman to be named as the next England manager. Roy Hodgson, who is currently with West Brom, is 14/1 and Alan Pardew and Steve Coppell can be backed at 20/1 and 50/1 respectively.
From the other managers that have been priced up in the next England manager betting, Martin O’Neill, who has been instrumental since taking over at Sunderland, is 33/1 and the former Liverpool and Inter Milan manager Rafa Benitez, is 33/1. Former England manager Gareth Southgate is 40/1 to get a second crack at the whip and the current Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini, is 50/1 to be named as the next England manager.
Whatever happens in the next England manager betting the FA will need to make a decision pretty quick with the 2012 European Championships getting underway at the start of June. England also have three warm-up matches prior to the start of this summer’s big tournament so the FA will want to give the new manager a chance to have a look at his squad and try to implement his way of playing (warm-up matches - 29th February Holland at home, 26th May Norway away and the 2nd June Belgium at home).
