Novelty Markets
Now that Christmas has been and gone for another year, the next big event of 2009 for most people will be the New Years Eve celebrations on Thursday 31 December. These tend to be fairly traditional events, involving good food, time with friends and a celebratory drink or two. Another great tradition that many of you will be in the habit of enjoying is placing a New Year novelty bet!
The Paddy Power sports betting site is always the best place to visit when you fancy placing a novelty bet, and this year there are three markets that are well worth taking a look at in the New Year Specials 2010 category….
Jedward 2010
The first novelty market that brought a smile to our faces asks, ‘What will Jedward do first in 2010?’ For those who have been living under a rock for the last few months we can tell you that ‘Jedward’ refers to John and Edward Grimes – two brothers who made a splash in the X-Factor television show thanks to their unusual hairstyles.
If you fancy betting on the antics of this pair then Paddy Power offer odds of 6/4 on them cutting off their hair, 4/1 on them having a number one single, 9/2 about them getting thrown out of a nightclub, and so on. If you really want to revel in the novelty of novelty betting, why not have a bet on Jedward being exposed as Louis Walsh’s love children at odds of 500/1?
First Twit to leave Twitter
Twitter has become incredibly successful in 2009, and enables anyone with a suitable mobile phone to ‘follow’ the ‘tweets’ of those who ‘twitter’ about their mundane – sorry, incredibly interesting – lives. This novelty market allows you to bet on which celebrity Twitter user will be the first to close their account in 2010. Stephen Fry heads the market at 9/4, followed by John Cleese at 3/1, Graeme Swann at 4/1 and Russell Brand at 5/1. Other celebrities are available at higher prices.
Most Tabloid Front Page Stories
The third New Year novelty betting market that you might want to take a look at requires you to bet on which celebrity you think will have the most tabloid front page stories in 2010. As you might expect, Jordan and Peter Andre are red hot favourites at 13/8, David Cameron is second favourite at 9/4 and Cheryl & Ashley Cole are close behind at 3/1.
We don’t give tips here at Gamble.co.uk, but we’re tempted to have a bet on Jordan and Peter Andre getting the most tabloid front page stories in 2010, with maybe a small saver on David Cameron, since it will be election year. If you fancy having a novelty bet of your own, visit Paddy Power now to take a look at the markets in full.
