The former England captain, who has won 72 caps for England, has had the backing of the national manager Fabio Capello though with the Italian going down on record saying that he absolutely disagrees with the decision from the FA to strip Terry of the armband. The outcry by Capello has seen bookmakers open a book on whether the Italian will still be in charge when the European Championships gets underway in June? It’s 1/4 with Stan James for Capello to still be at the helm come the start of the competition at 11/4 he’s not.

Stan James spokesman Rory Jiwani said: "This could all be a storm in a teacup and it might blow over pretty quickly. That said, a seed of doubt has been sown and it's not out of the question that this issue of John Terry's captaincy deteriorates and Capello walks."

With uncertainties on who will take over the role of England captain Bet365 are offering odds on who will lead England out against France on June 11th and make the Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard their 8/13 favourite.
