Jenson Button: Brawn Again?

Jenson Button: Brawn Again?Formula 1 betting enthusiasts are speculating as to who 2009 Drivers’ Champion Jenson Button will be driving for in the 2010 season. His year with Brawn GP could hardly have gone much better, but Button has decided against rushing into signing up for another season with Brawn, preferring instead to think things over for a few weeks. Naturally, this has given racing fans plenty of time to consider the possibilities.

Jenson has admitted that he has been approached by several Formula 1 teams, but has thus far refrained from saying which teams. Although a move to another team might well mean more money for Button, making decisions on a cash per season basis is a very short-sighted approach that the champion is unlikely to take.

However, that doesn’t mean he won’t consider moving for other reasons. Jenson has said that the most important thing for him is to be driving in a car that he has a good chance of winning races in, and that gives the speculators all the room they need to come up with all manner of suggestions.

Maybe Jenson Button could move to McLaren? An all-English pairing would undoubtedly prove to be a big hit with sponsors as well as motor racing fans. But would those of us who bet on F1 racing really like to choose between two particularly popular drivers? Probably not, though we do admit that, for the patriots among us, a bet on McLaren for the Constructors Championship in that scenario might seem like a good idea.

The more we look at the situation, the less predictable it appears. Rubens Barrichello has signed up to drive for Williams in 2010, so the Brawn GP line-up has already changed quite significantly. The current sponsorship deal between Brawn and Virgin is also unlikely to continue next season. Clearly, there are plenty for possible developments for fans to chat about ad infinitum.

So, will Jenson Button drive for Brawn again in 2010? The short answer is that we’ll just have to wait and see. What we do know is that the 2010 Formula 1 season is sure to be just as interesting – and hopefully as exciting – as the one that made Jenson Button the Drivers’ Champion for 2009.
