Formula 1 2010 Betting
The Formula 1 2010 season gets underway next month with the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix scheduled for Sunday 14 March, and F1 fans everywhere will be keen to see how the return of Michael Schumacher to the sport after a three year absence shakes things up. The 2009 season was eventful, but for many of the wrong reasons, with rule changes and budget restrictions grabbing just as many headlines as the eventual success of Jenson Button. Button has since left the Brawn team to join McLaren alongside Lewis Hamilton, and the 2010 season is the first since 1993 to forbid refuelling stops, so how are the sports betting sites pricing things up in this ever-changing climate?
The Outright Betting market over at Paddy Power currently has Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso installed at the 3/1 favourite, with Lewis Hamilton as 7/2 second favourite for McLaren. Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull) and Michael Schumacher (Mercedes GP) are priced at 9/2 and 5/1 respectively. Felipe Massa (Ferrari) is offered at 15/2 and Jenson Button (McLaren) is at 9/1. All other drivers are currently 14/1 or bigger.
The Drivers Championship market at the William Hill sportsbook tells a similar story, but there are a few differences in prices that could be worth noting. Alonso and Hamilton head the market at 3/1 and 7/2 respectively, but Schumacher here is third favourite at 4/1. Vettel and Massa come next at 11/2 and 8/1, and Jenson Button is offered at 10/1. All other drivers are 16/1 or bigger.
Comparing these two F1 betting markets side by side, anyone who wants to bet on Jenson Button repeating his 2009 success would do well to take the 10/1 at Hills rather than the 9/1 at Paddy Power. But those who fancy Schumacher to make a blazing return to F1 and win the 2010 Drivers Championship after three years away from the sport would be better off at Paddy Power, where the odds of 5/1 are 1 point better than the 4/1 at Hills.
As well as the market for the Drivers Championship, William Hill sportsbook also has a number of Schumacher Specials that are worth taking a look at. One market asks you to predict whether Schumacher or Button will achieve the most pole positions during 2010, and right now Schumacher is the 8/11 favourite with Button at 1/1. Or maybe you would prefer to bet on whether Schumacher or Hamilton will win the most Grand Prix races in 2010? In that case Hamilton is 1/2 favourite and Schumacher is priced at 6/4.
There are other Formula 1 2010 betting markets available at the Paddy Power and William Hill sportsbook sites, so do take a look at the range of opportunities on offer if you fancy having a bet. We have a feeling that the Drivers Championship title this year will be claimed by Hamilton or Schumacher, but we’ll have to wait a few months to find out if that hunch proves to be profitable (and we’ll probably have a saver on Alonso just in case). If you have a hunch of your own then visit Paddy Power or William Hill and feel free to take the best price available!
