England still be ranked as the No 1 Test team?

William Hill make England 8/15 to still be ranked as the world’s No 1 Test team by the end of 2012 after Andrew Strauss’s men claimed the top spot with a 242 runs victory at Edgbaston on Saturday. The victory saw England take a 3-0 lead in the four-match Test series and if the Three Lions can overcome India at the Oval, it will be the first time since 1974 that England have managed to whitewash India in a Test series. The Leeds-based firm also offer 11/8 that England lose their number one status by the end of next year.

Prior to the first Test the bookmakers couldn’t envisage an England whitewash. The hosts, who were a massive 25/1 to whitewash India 4-0, are now even money with William Hill to take the final Test with India 5/1 and the draw 11/8.

William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe said: “England's latest triumph is great news for England fans but we've been seeing support for both the draw and for India to win - one punter staked £2000 on them to win this match - so we have suffered only a small reverse on the Series outcome and on the latest game.”

William Hill are also betting on how many days the 4th test will last. It’s 500/1 that the final Test is over inside the first day, 50/1 Day 2, 10/1 Day 3, 11/8 Day 4 and 4/6 it runs into a final day (Day 5).

After his match winning 294 runs at Edgbaston, Blue Square have opened a market on Alastair Cook’s first innings performance in the final Test. It’s 11/10 for Cook to score 0 to 30 runs, 3/1 31 to 60 runs and 13/8 he scores 61 runs or more.

Kevin Pietersen, who is currently the leading batsman in the Test series having scored a total of 358 runs from his five innings (average 89.50), is 13/20 to be the top first innings batman with Alastair Cook 11/8 and Ian Bell 10/1.

Whatever happens at the Oval, we're guaranteed to be treated to a feast of cricket betting opportunities.
