The result sees Liverpool in the driving seat to qualify for the final and with a tie against either Crystal Palace or Cardiff City on the horizon, the Reds will be confident of picking up their eighth Carling Cup title. It’s 11/8 that Liverpool manage to overcome City in the 2nd leg at Anfield and 4/9 they qualify through to the final on 26th February.

Manchester City are next best in the Carling Cup outright betting at 5/2 (general) but they’ll first have to overturn a goal deficit when they visit Anfield on 25th January. The Citizens are 15/8 (bodog) to take the 2nd leg and 28/17 (bwin) to reach their first Carling Cup final since they overcame Newcastle in 1976.

Following their 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in their 1st leg match on Tuesday evening Cardiff City will be hoping for a more promising result when they entertain the Eagles on the 24th January. The Bluebirds are 5/6 to overcome Palace in 90 minutes (Draw 13/5 and Crystal Palace 4/1) and evens (Ladbrokes) to qualify.

It’s now 10/1 (from 12/1) for Dougie Freedman’s side to go on and claim their first ever Carling Cup title whilst Cardiff City have been eased out in the Carling Cup betting to 11/1 (from 8/1).

In Bet365’s name the finalist betting, it’s now 17/10 (from 3/1) for Liverpool and Cardiff to reach the final, 7/4 (from 4/1) that Liverpool and Crystal Palace contest the final (from 4/1) and 9/2 that Manchester City and Cardiff both progress from the semi-final stage. 5/1 is quoted for a Manchester City v Crystal Palace final.
