Button and Brawn are F1 Champions
Jenson Button has become the 10th British driver to win the Formula 1 World Drivers Championship, and his success (as well as that of Lewis Hamilton in 2009) gives Britain its first back-to-back Drivers Championship success in 40 years. His Brawn GP team also became the first team to win the Constructors Championship in its debut season – not bad with one Formula 1 Grand Prix race left to go!
Button has been fancied to win the Championship from the very beginning of the 2009 F1 season, and was offered at odds of 5/2 after his success in the first race in Melbourne. Those of you who believed that Jenson was worth backing are now laughing all the way to bank!
Button secured his Formula 1 World Drivers Championship by achieving a fifth place finish in the Brazilian Grand Prix on Sunday 18 October. His team mate Rubens Barrichello finished in eighth place, and the Brawn GP team was understandably delighted with its performance in its first ever Formula 1 season.
With both the Drivers Championship and the Constructors Championship sewn up, F1 betting fans are now looking to get some early prices for the 2010 season. The William Hill sportsbook has been very quick off the grid, and has Lewis Hamilton installed as the 2/1 favourite to win the Drivers Championship next year. Fernando Alonso is second favourite at 7/2, Kimi Raikkonen is third in the betting at 9/2 and Sebastian Vettel is priced at 13/2. Those of you who fancy Jenson Button to repeat his success in 2010 can currently obtain odds of 12/1.
Of course, the 2009 season isn’t quite over yet, and we still have the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to sink our teeth into on Sunday 1 November. Will Button be able to cap his Championship season with a podium finish, or will Lewis Hamilton make that 2/1 price with William Hill look like a good thing for 2010? We’ll have to wait and see, but in the meantime we congratulate Jenson Button, Brawn GP and all of you sports betting readers who made some nice profits thanks to both of them!
