Arsenal eased to 9/4 to finish in the top four
Arsenal have been eased to 9/4 to finish in the top four of the Barclays Premier League following their disappointing 3-2 loss to Swansea on Sunday. The result leaves the Gunners in fifth place four points adrift of fourth place Chelsea and with a fixture against Manchester United next up for the North-London club, Arsene Wenger’s men can’t afford to fall any further behind if they want to be playing Champions League football next season.
The signs were looking good for Arsenal when the current Premier League top scorer Robin van Persie fired home after just five minutes but a well converted penalty from Scott Sinclair on the 16th minute of play and further goals from Nathan Dyer and Danny Graham, were enough to guide the hosts to a memorable victory. The result sees Swansea extent their impressive form at the Liberty Stadium (P11, W5, D5 L1) with BetVictor now offering 7/2 for the Welsh side to finish the season in a top 10 position.
In the Premier League top four betting, Tottenham are now top price 2/9 (William Hill) to finish in the top four after they only managed a 1-1 draw with Wolves. The result leaves Spurs six points ahead of Chelsea, who are 4/9 with Coral to finish in a Champions League spot. Liverpool, who are five points adrift of fourth placed Chelsea are out to 11/4 after they failed to overcome Stoke an Anfield (0-0 draw).
Meanwhile, Robin van Persie is now as short as 8/11 with BetVictor for the Golden Boot after he recorded his 18th of the season. That tally puts him three clear of Newcastle’s Demba Ba but with Ba away for the next month on international duties, the Dutch international could pull further clear.
The Premier League outright betting is also starting to take shape with Manchester City currently leading the way at 4/7 (Coral). City take on bottom of the table Wigan this evening and three points for the Citizens would see them pull three points clear of their bitter rivals Manchester United at the top of the table. It’s 4/9 for City to come away from the DW Stadium with maximum points (8/1 Wigan and 15/4 Draw) and with David Silva expected to recover in time to make the starting XI, the North-West club will be confident about putting their season back on track after suffering back-to-back cup defeats.
