Amlin 1965 Chase Betting

Amlin 1965 Chase BettingThe Amlin 1965 Chase is the highlight on Ascot’s Saturday card and with a host of talented performers entered all eyes will be on the Berkshire track this weekend. The Paul Nicholls trained Master Minded is currently the 2/1 favourite and if the eight-year-old can put his lacklustre run in the Old Roan Chase at Aintree in October behind him, the Nicholls horse will surely be a popular selection. The main positive for Master Minded is that he should get conditions to suit but with him conceding weight to all his rivals and the 2m 3f likely to be on the short side, other horses look a better betting proposition.

Master Minded’s main danger looks to be the Arkle Trophy winner Captain Chris. The Philip Hobbs-trained horse will be hoping to repay his followers after unseating Richard Johnson at the last in the Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter, when looking poised to win. He’s currently the 9/4 second favourite in the Amil 1965 Chase betting and with there being no doubts over the distance or going, the seven-year-old is fancied to go close.

VC spokesperson Charlie McCann said: “Master Minded won the corresponding race last year when Albertas Run crashed out three out and, despite the absence of the Jonjo O’Neill star, this looks a stronger renewal on Saturday if all the principles stand their ground. Both market leaders blotted their copybook somewhat last time with Master Minded a well beaten third at Aintree and Captain Chris crashing out on his reappearance at Exeter. Official figures suggest Captain Chris has it all to do with last year’s winner but we aren’t so sure; it promises to be a cracker.”

Next in the betting comes the Henrietta Knight horse Somersby. The bay gelding was unlucky not to overcome Master Minded in the Victor Chandler Chase back in January and after a positive winning run at Kempton in his season debut, the seven-year-old could be the horse that poises the biggest threat to the Nicholls hotpot. The 7/2 does look a good value bet and this is backed up by the comments coming from the Knight stable that they expect a big run.

The final two horses we’re going to talk about in the Amil 1965 Chase betting are Medermit and Kalahari King. Medermit is available at 8/1 for Saturday’s big race and after an encouraging run when he took advantage of Captain Chris' fall at Exeter, the Alan King horse is expected to once again make the frame. The only concerns about backing Medermit is that this race is a much harder race than the one he won at Exeter and even King himself said that he will need improve to win on Saturday.

Kalahari King is a 12/1 chance for the Ferdy Murphy stable but at 10-years-old it will take a huge performance to overcome his younger rivals. He was pulled up in April this year when competing for the Melling Chase at Aintree (Master Minded won and Somersby third) and has since then failed to make any sort of impact on his season debut at Kelso at the beginning of this month (finished fifth of seven runners).

The other runners still entered in the race are the David Pipe pair I'msingingtheblues (25/1) and Dan Breen (33/1), the Sue Smith horse Stagecoach Pearl 33/1 (won the Kelso race that Kalahari King finished fifth), Lancetto (50/1) for Evan Williams, The Sawyer (100/1) and Kinkeel (500/1).
