188Bet is an online sportsbook that was launched in 2006. The 188bet name hit the headlines in May 2009 when it announced that it was sponsoring not one but two Premier League football clubs – Wigan Athletic FC and Bolton Wanderers FC. That’s quite an achievement for such a young company, so what is it that has made 188bet so successful? Read on and the answer to that question will soon become clear...
The first thing that you’ll notice when you visit the 188bet sportsbook is that 188bet refers to itself as ‘the in-play-specialist’. For the benefit of those of you who don’t know what in-play betting is, it is betting whilst the event itself is running or ‘in play’. Most traditional sportsbooks insist that you place your bet before the event in question starts – before a football match kicks off, for example. 188bet allows you to do that, but it also allows you to bet even after the kick-off, and even as late as a few minutes before the final whistle. You can’t bet on every single event in play, but you’ll find more in-play markets here at 188bet than you will at any other online sportsbook we can think of, and that’s great news for sports betting fans everywhere.
188Bet betting in play
The advantages of betting in play with 188bet are numerous. It allows you to wait and see how your favourite football team settles down before deciding whether or not to put your money on the line. It also allows you to hedge an existing bet with another bet just in case you get scuppered by a last minute goal (the odds are always changing in play, so you can often place a hedge bet to cover your potential loss at a fraction of the cost required earlier in the game). And it means you can take steps to reduce your downside if the action turns against you (for example, by betting on the opposing team or competitor when it is obvious that your own selection isn’t likely to succeed).
We could go on about betting in play for ages, but we have the rest of this review to get on with, so we’ll leave that aspect of the 188bet sportsbook site for you to explore further at your leisure. Suffice it to say that 188bet really is the bet in play specialist, and that’s one of the things that has helped 188bet to become so popular with online sports bettors everywhere.
The 188bet sportsbook site is very nicely presented and just as well organised. A menu on the left hand side of the screen allows you to click on the sport that interests you, and you have three options here. Click on the Live In-Play button to display only those events that are currently in play, click on the Today tab to show the in play markets for the day or click on the Early tab if you want to place a bet before an event gets underway. This ability to home in on the specific kind of betting opportunity you want is a great time saver.
Betting itself is also very straightforward – simply click on the odds of the outcome that you want to bet on, enter your stake and confirm your bet. This makes 188bet ideal for those who ever need to place a bet in a hurry, because the whole process of finding and placing a bet needn’t take more than a few seconds.
If there is one thing that will surprise some bettors, it’s the conspicuous absence of horse and greyhound racing markets. Virtually every other sport is covered very nicely, and you can bet on everything from football and golf to f1 racing and cricket, but no racing that involves horses or dogs. Fortunately, every other aspect of the 188bet sportsbook impresses beyond belief, so most people will be happy to let that omission slide and go to somewhere like Paddy Power for their racing action.
Getting back to the sports, 188bet offers a wealth of statistics that you can use to help you make the best possible betting decisions. We’re talking more data that you can shake a stick at here: league tables, head to head breakdowns, fixtures, form strings – the whole caboodle. Stats fans will be like pigs in mud at 188bet, and if you can’t pick winners with all of this information at your fingertips, you should think about taking up roulette instead!
We apologise for the length of this review, but 188bet really is packed to bursting with sportsbook goodness. There’s even more for you to discover yourself, so be sure to visit 188bet at your earliest convenience and it could well change your online sports betting habits forever.

“Average says it all” The site is easy to navigate around but I do find their prices are sometimes on the short side. I also wish they would do more offers for loyal customers as they have some great ties with top football clubs. Was this review helpful? Yes |
