Greyhound Betting

Greyhound betting is great fun and one of the easiest sports to follow. Much like horse racing you are betting on a greyhound to be the first to run around a track and beat the rest. That’s where the similarities end though and that’s what makes Greyhound betting so easy to participate in.

There are tracks up and down the country and a night at the dogs is one of the most fun things you can ever do, don’t worry however if there isn’t a track near you as with the advent of the internet greyhound betting is so easy to do without even leaving your desk.

The dogs are placed in traps for the race, usually six and unlike horse betting you are placing your bet on the trap rather than the race. For example you might place £10 on trap 1. Just like horse racing, greyhound betting supports both win and each way bets although with just six traps you are only betting on second place for the place part of your bet.

So now we’ve covered both win and each way greyhound betting and they can offer some great returns although with just six runners odds can be short on greyhound betting, especially on a hot favourite.

Greyhound Betting Forecasts

Let’s now take a look at forecasts. Forecast betting is also available on horseracing but is much more popular on greyhound betting because the number of runners is usually six. To place a forecast bet you are betting on the greyhounds to come in first and second place, although there are no odds as such on the forecast you are looking at a return of about 20/1 upwards depending on the starting prices.

When you only have six runners in a race it’s easy to see why forecast greyhound betting is such an appealing bet, there are only so many combinations of which dog can come first and second so you really are winning the odds game.

To increase your chances, reverse the forecast. This means that you choose two trap numbers when greyhound betting and whichever way they come first and second you win the forecast. It’s two bets, a little like each-way betting but you are doubling your chances of a win.

Popular greyhound betting runs through the card. If a meet has twelve races then you can bet – for example – Trap 1 throughout the card, multiply this to incorporate doubles or trebles depending on your betting limits and just hope you choose the lucky trap.

You can use the same method for forecast greyhound betting and given that in multiplies one win runs on to the next forecast you really only have to hit a couple of good 20/1 forecast greyhound bets to get a great return.

Many people spend hours checking the greyhound betting form for ‘hot’ dogs when placing their bets, but if your dog isn’t quick out of the trap it doesn’t matter how hot it is and that’s why trap betting is so good.

It’s this reason that makes greyhound racing so much fun, yes you can play the skill game and pore over the form but you’re actually just as likely to win if you pick a trap, stick with it and play the luck game when greyhound betting at dog meetings.
