Betting and Boxing have always gone hand in hand and at one time betting on boxing matches was one of the most popular forms of betting available. Boxing betting is still available and having a wager riding on the result makes a boxing match all the more interesting to watch.
Boxing betting works in pretty much the same way as football or any other sports betting, there are three available results, odds for one or the other boxer, or odds on the draw.
Draw odds on boxing betting are pretty good but the bookmaker isn’t silly, this is because draws aren’t the most likely outcome and you’ll usually find with a boxing match that the boxing betting favours one boxer much more highly than the other. Contenders can often be very unevenly matched, especially for title fights and it can make the boxing betting a little uneven.
If you bet on one boxer or the other and the match goes to points and it’s a draw then you lose, the only people smiling are the bookmaker and the rare punters who bet on the draw.
This can mean that you have to lay out a big stake on the win, but then as all the pundits know only too well, the hotter the favourite, the shorter the odds so don’t let it put you off, especially now that boxing betting has regained the integrity lost in the 1960’s when fights were thought to be thrown for cash. This of course would never happen today and if you love a good bout then there’s nothing that can heighten the excitement of a good boxing match quite like a wad of cash on the winner.
Boxing Betting Options
If the odds on a hot favourite contender are a bit too short to tempt you then don’t worry as there are still lots of boxing betting options and many of them can win you much more cash than betting on the favourite. If you’re a keen follower of this pugilistic sport then it shouldn’t be too difficult to get a good return.
Many bookmakers offer odds for the knockout and you can bet on which round you think the fight will be stopped in. The odds are great on round by round boxing betting and often the thriftiest punters will bet on a few rounds to cover their bets, with such great odds offered this can often be a great option for punters.
Another popular boxing bet offered by bookmakers is another knockout bet but this one is a bit more wide ranging.
If you don’t think you can guess the exact round that a fight will end then you can have a range bet of rounds 1-6 or 6-12 for example.
There are lots of options with boxing betting so be sure to look around at what a bookmaker has on offer before placing your bet. Above all, enjoy the fight, something you’re sure to do when you have a wager running on your favourite contender.
